Overview
“Liaisons: Introductory French” is an innovative French program grounded in principles of teaching and research in second language acquisition. Through this carefully structured program, students discover how to make connections with their classmates, their instructor, their community, and the French-speaking world.
With an engaging mystery film shot in Montreal, Quebec, and Paris, the program provides a rich array of communication-based activities designed to fuel interaction in and out of the classroom. The program’s framework asks students to explore new vocabulary and grammar through different mediums, connect form and meaning through a set of confidence-building activities, and actively create language.
- The new “Compétences interculturelles” section builds real-world connections to culture using authentic topics like time, food, and housing to spark reflection.
- Streamlined vocabulary found in two “Vocabulaire” sections per chapter features engaging visuals for context and a variety of activities to reinforce comprehension.
- The new “Tâche de synthése” section provides optional tasks that reinforce chapter topics and adapt easily for review, assessment, or project-based work.
- An enhanced MindTap Course features an updated Learning Path, a new eBook, and richer assessment options, like speaking opportunities and auto-graded pronunciation activities.
- Anchoring the program, a suspenseful film set in Montreal and Paris follows a Montreal graduate student as her past and present collide in unexpected ways.
- Functional grammar presentations found in three “Grammaire” sections per chapter reinforce communication with film-based examples, clear explanations, and ample practice.
- The “Liaisons avec le mots et les sons” section in each chapter focuses on pronunciation, sharpening listening and speaking skills, and deepening cultural awareness.
- “Liaisons avec la lecture et l’écriture” pairs culture-focused readings with guided writing tasks that help students connect ideas and develop structured expression.
