Overview
The focus in INTRODUCTORY & INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA: AN APPLIED APPROACH, 6th EDITION remains on the Aufmann Interactive Method (AIM). Students are encouraged to be active participants in the classroom and in their own studies as they work through the How To examples and the paired Examples and You Try It problems. Student engagement is crucial to success. Presenting students with worked examples, and then providing them with the opportunity to immediately solve similar problems, helps them build their confidence and eventually master the concepts.
Simplicity is key in the organization of this edition, as in all other editions. All lessons, exercise sets, tests, and supplements are organized around a carefully constructed hierarchy of objectives. Each exercise mirrors a preceding objective, which helps to reinforce key concepts and promote skill building. This clear, objective-based approach allows students to organize their thoughts around the content, and supports instructors as they work to design syllabi, lesson plans, and other administrative documents.
New features like Focus on Success, Apply the Concept, and Concept Check add an increased emphasis on study skills and conceptual understanding to strengthen the foundation of student success. The Sixth Edition also features a new design, enhancing the Aufmann Interactive Method and making the pages easier for both students and instructors to follow.
Instructors and students benefit from WebAssign content updates without having to transition to a new edition, including new problem types such as Concept Checks, Learn Its, an increased number of problems and more.
- JUST IN TIME SUPPORT built into questions contains direct links to the eTextbook (Read It) and videos (Watch It).
- LEARN IT MODULES address your students’ knowledge gaps with just-in-time instruction that meets their diverse learning styles. Available as an additional resource within questions, Learn Its provide targeted instruction and practice on that topic using narrative, videos and tutorials—all in one place. If the topic is still too challenging, students can choose to continue learning through associated prerequisite Learn Its until they feel confident in their knowledge and preparedness.
- RESPONSIVE QUESTIONS personalize the learning experience for your students by asking them to use their own real data, which provides the variables they will use to answer each question part.
- CONCEPT CHECK questions provide students with short, multi-step videos reviewing key math concepts. Students are required to answer a question after each video to ensure their understanding of each concept.
- EXPANDED PROBLEMS include intermediary steps to guide students to the final answer.
- MASTER IT TUTORIALS break problems down into steps to help guide students through the mathematical process.
- COURSE PACKS are modifiable, ready-to-use assignments built by subject matter experts to help save time.
- CLASS INSIGHTS provide understanding of student knowledge gaps.
- APPLY THE CONCEPT BOXES illustrate how an arithmetic operation is applied to a real-world situation so that students understand a context in which the operation is used.
- APPLY THE BASIC CONCEPTS appear when a new application problem type is introduced. These examples illustrate the basic concepts of applications such as work problems and percent mixture problems.
