Overview
Created by the continuous feedback of a “student-tested, faculty-approved” process, COMP (with CourseMate Printed Access Card), 3E delivers a visually appealing, succinct print component, tear-out review cards for students and instructors, and a consistent online offering with Enhanced CourseMate that includes an eBook in addition to a set of interactive digital tools all at a value-based price and proven to increase retention and outcomes.
Attention CourseMate user: The CourseMate platform is being sunset and will not be sold with this title after December 31st, 2019. Cengage will support existing users of CourseMate through August 1st, 2020.
- COMP3 includes a new, eye-catching 4LTR design with new photos and graphics; an expanded and well organized table of contents to reflect the breadth and value of the content included within the text. All charts and writing samples have been updated, digital/internet content updated, and content overall is more timely and relevant. There is increased emphasis on the section titled “Workplace Writing,” with an awareness that such content is extremely important to college students. There are more than 20 student models, most of them new, and more than 20 professional essays, many of them new to this edition.
- COMP3 combines the well-established and respected pedagogy of VanderMey's The College Writer with the 4LTR Press's model that makes it very effective and accessible for students and faculty. The very affordable price point represents a significant advantage over competitors and gives sales reps a price play in the large and very important English Composition market.
- WHAT IS ITS POSITIONING IN THE MARKET:COMP3 is positioned as an “essentials” product for the higher education English Composition classroom, with special emphasis on real-life and workplace applications. The highly visual format helps engage students and the supplements package provides comprehensive support for instructors, especially at Career schools where there is a greater need to “plug and play.”
- STRENGTHS OF CURRENT EDITION: COMP3 shares many of the same strengths as VanderMey’s, The College Writer. It demonstrates immediate application of writing for college and beyond (work, life, etc.). The text offers a highly engaging and interesting visual layout. Because COMP3 is a 4LTR Press product, it offers the only fully student-tested, faculty-approved English Composition product in the CL bookbag. While it shares many of The College Writer's strengths, this revision of COMP differentiates itself in a number of positive ways (increased focus on user needs, Student Resource Cards, Instructor Prep cards, and more).
- The revision strategy for COMP3 focuses on maintaining the improvements initiated with COMP2, but also expanding upon them to help address user needs most effectively.
- Every 4LTR Press solution comes complete with an engaging print textbook, tear-out review cards, an interactive digital solution (Enhanced CourseMate), and an eBook - all of which were directly influenced from student focus groups and surveys, and from interviews with faculty and students.
- Shorter, comprehensive chapters in a modern design present content in a more engaging and accessible format without minimizing coverage for your course.
- Tear-Out Review Cards at the back of the Student Edition provide students with a portable study tool containing all of the pertinent information for class preparation.
- Instructor Prep Cards at the back of the Instructor Edition make preparation simple with detachable cards for each chapter, offering a quick map of chapter content, a list of corresponding PowerPoint and video resources, additional examples, and suggested assignments and discussion questions to help organize chapter content efficiently.
- Every 4LTR Press solution comes with Enhanced CourseMate, the interactive digital component that offers a full suite of unique learning tools that appeal to different learning styles. Quizzes, audio downloads, video podcasts, and more are only a click away.
