Overview
Herren's AGRICULTURAL MECHANICS FUNDAMENTALS & APPLICATIONS, 8th Student Edition, addresses the ever-evolving field of agricultural mechanics and the needs of students in high school and post-secondary agricultural education programs. New chapters focus on renewable energy and innovative and emerging technologies in agriculture such as robotics, lasers and drones. Knowledge and skills are built through measurable learning outcomes, relevant and authentic content and assessments. Hands-on learning is emphasized, including detailed project plans, instructive data tables, information on the SAE for All program and projects related to agricultural mechanics. Content is aligned to the AFNR Standards and YouScience® Industry Certification Standards, highlighting connections to each of the STEM disciplines. The text builds student confidence and promotes success in the classroom and beyond.
- The text aligns to National and Industry Standards, including AFNR and YouScience® Industry Certification Standards for Agricultural Mechanics and Technology I (110).
- Explains why topics are important and relevant to students in each Section Overview.
- Enhance and support the student learning experience with seamlessly aligned Chapter Objectives, Content and Review Questions, Discussion Questions and Student Activities. Questions and Activities at the end of each chapter are thoughtfully scaffolded, starting with basic recall questions, moving on to thought-provoking critical thinking questions and progressing to hands-on application to help students achieve a higher level of understanding of the content. Students are supported through chapter Key Terms, a bulleted Summary in each chapter and an English and Spanish Glossary y Glosario.
- Connect STEM to Agricultural Mechanics by visually highlighting connections to the application of science, technology, engineering or math concepts in agricultural mechanics.
- Build proficiency in practical skills through step-by-step procedures that combine visuals and descriptive narrative to walk students through a specific skill related to the topic.
- Emphasize safety and essential knowledge through Caution features that outline important safety precautions when engaging in a specific task or procedure and Notes that provide insider tips.
- Extend student learning with robust appendices consisting of numerous projects, including project plans with bills of materials and construction procedures, Data Tables that contain information for estimating, planning, selecting, purchasing and building in agricultural mechanics and a focus on the SAE for All program with specific project ideas in agricultural mechanics.
